highlights of 2019

so, 2019 was a pretty great year. it was also a year of a lot of changes and transitions, but looking back, it was good. ;) here's a brief recap of the highlights of my 2019.

/ my three best friends and i celebrated international women's day by seeing Captain Marvel on opening day. it snowed that afternoon, so i drove my clunky car (a blue minivan that i named George), and we spent the whole drive laughing at stupid things and eating brownies.  such a fun night, and a great movie.

/ the saturday mornings spent walking up to panera with my parents. going over college acceptances, and in the spring, celebrating college acceptances.

/ that glorious, crazy moment on the last saturday in march, at 5:05 pm when i checked my email and found that i had gotten into my dream college. screaming and screaming and falling on the floor and spending the weekend in a haze of shock.

/ my family, close friends, and i watched Avengers: Endgame on opening day. we spent the whole day in glorious and terrifying anticipation, refusing to go on the internet. i sat next to my best friends in the theater, and we cried as we saw our favorite characters on screen for the last time.

/ that monday in may when i graduated with some of my best friends, whom i've known since third grade. throwing our caps in the air, and walking down the aisle to the Throne Room song from Star Wars.

/ june & july: last season of swim team. i spent summer mornings on the sun-scorched pool deck, laughing and joking with fellow junior coaches and getting quite sun-burnt.

/ that amazing graduation trip to new york with my dad, two best friends, and their dad when WE SAW HAMILTON AT THE RICHARD RODGERS THEATRE. crying when the opening notes of "alexander hamilton" play, and realizing that i have the entire musical memorized. ;) and no, i still haven't recovered from that weekend.

/ weekdays spent working at my amazing job, and treasuring every last moment with regular customers and my boss. eating bagels nearly every day, because why not?

/ watching Spider-Man: Far From Home with friends who are basically family. shrieking at that post credit scene, and realizing with a pang of sadness that the next Marvel movie i'd see in theaters would be after my first year of college.

/  the weekend spent with my grandparents in the country, reading and drinking coffee and watching say yes to the dress. some days spent with my other grandparents, playing yahtzee and drinking coffee and watching jeopardy.

/ that emotional day in august when i left for college and had to say goodbye to my little siblings. driving with my parents and listening to my favorite episodes of adventures in odyssey while making sure my cactus plants (shawn & gus) didn't fall. having a last lunch at panera, and then move in day. saying goodbye to my parents, and not seeing them for another six weeks.

/ meeting wonderful, hilarious, quirky people at college, and realizing that it isn't as scary as i thought it would be. lots of ordering pizza and watching movies with my roommate and friends. spending weekday nights watching PSYCH with my roommate.

/ Harry Potter and Marvel trivia nights at our college library, two of my favorite nights of my first semester.  we laughed so much and so loudly that other people probably thought we were obnoxious, lol. team spew and team fantastic four rocked ;) (also we beat this super annoying team of boys on Marvel trivia night, so that was amazing ;).

/ seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with my family and best friends. sitting between my best friends, and staring at each other in complete shock and amazement as the movie unfolded. leaving the theater in a daze and spending the next hour texting in all caps.

i'm probably forgetting some other memorable highlights of 2019, but these are the ones that stuck out to me when i was writing this post. ;)
never fear, i'm still a major geek about all things Harry Potter, Marvel, Bucky Barnes, The Office, and Star Wars. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FALCON & WINTER SOLDIER SHOW FOR A SECOND? idk how i'm going to survive till september 2020.

my family and i discovered PSYCH in may, and now are officially obsessed with the amazing tv show. pineapples are everywhere in our house right now, lol. if you haven't watched this amazing, quirky show, do it. NOW. it's about a super observant guy (think of a more obnoxious sherlock holmes) who pretends to be a psychic and solves cases for the police department with his hilarious best friend.

Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker officially broke my heart. Endgame was more shattering and emotional, as i've always preferred Marvel over Star Wars and the Marvel characters are dearer to my heart. every time i rewatch Endgame, it gets more emotional and heartbreaking. the third rewatch, i cried the last hour, nonstop.

The Rise of Skywalker was also amazing. while some didn't enjoy it, i personally found it an excellent end to the Skywalker saga. i loved all the subtle hints and nods to the original trilogy (spoilers in white text: CAN WE TALK ABOUT CHEWIE GETTING HIS MEDAL FINALLY / AND TANTOOINE AT THE END / AND OH MY GOSH, LEIA HAS A LIGHTSABER AND THAT SCENE WITH HER AND LUKE TRAINING TOGETHER THANK YOU YESSSS i've always wanted to have it fleshed out more that Leia is a Jedi & has the Force, so that part was amazing. my best friend and i gaped at each other in pure amazement and we mayyyyy have shrieked in excitement. end spoilers) of course, there were some issues i had with it, but overall, it was great and emotional and very Star Wars-y. Star Wars has always been very nostalgic for me, as i grew up watching them (in the correct order: 4 5 6, then 1 2 3 (tho we can forget about those) and they remind me of my childhood.

i also discovered the amazingness that is Tricia Mingerink's The Blades of Acktar series. it's Christian fantasy at its finest, and for a girl who is not overly fond of the fantasy genre, it blew me away. (cue Hamilton lyrics). i also mayyyy have reread the series *gulp* three times this year. and i just purchased the paperback set, so i'm very excited. ;)

in spring 2019, i finished my second novel ever, a YA contemporary called OUR LAST GREAT ADVENTURE. it's about four best friends who go on a road trip to florida, before the oldest goes to college. it's funny (at least i think so, lol) and whimsy and contained a lot of the worry and anxiety about college and moving away that i was feeling at that time.

i also started editing OUR LAST GREAT ADVENTURE, which was the first time i've ever edited a novel before. o_o i still haven't finished editing it, bc something called college stole my time. i'm hoping to finish editing it before summer, and work on draft 2 before college yr 2.

lastly, i started hard-core writing my third WIP, a superhero dystopian called LEGENDS NEVER DIE. i've had this concept for awhile, but couldn't find the right plot or characters. i'm still struggling to flesh out the middle of the book, but so far, i have the beginning & ending written, lol. about a quarter done, so it's moving slowly.

9.23.2019

hi

just a quick update to let y'all know that yes, i am still alive and well. (mostly well. currently a mess of stress, coffee, and homework.)

i'm at college rn, so it's been a huge transition period for me as i'm struggling with homework, walking everywhere (bc my dorm is literally at the edge of campus #rip), dining hall food, and of course, the hardest part: being away from my family.

but life's good. how are y'all? i've been staying up to date with the bloggy world, but mainly just reading posts and not commenting (bc i'm lazy).

also my new favorite thing is "Psych". one of the best tv shows of all time. it's my happy place. (besides adventures in odyssey, which YES i still listen to. every morning on my walk to class. ;)

just a quick post to let y'all know that i'm alive and well. and hopefully
can start posting again,
but no promises.
bc college is hard and i'm so busy. ;)

i can't reply to any of y'all's comments or comment on
any blogs???

i've emptied my cache but it didn't help. ; /

the marvel cinematic universe tag / HI I'M BACK

yes.

i know.

i haven't posted in *coughs* nearly five months.

aaaaaand i have no excuse. also i won't be back for awhile.

but, i saw that the lovely Christine Smith created a MCU tag and of course, being the super geek that i am, i just couldn't resist. so i'm here just to do this tag & then i'll disappear for another undisclosed amount of time, xD.

guys. Avengers: Endgame comes out this Friday.

IM SCREAMING RIGHT NOW. i'm so not prepared and ready for this movie, but it's coming.

we're seeing it friday at 4pm. it's on my calendar in blood. xD the day the tickets came out, my friend and i were in math class and we kept checking the movie theater website and it took thirty minutes to load. as soon as math ended, we sprinted to the parking lot and nearly sped all the way to the theater to buy our tickets. then we were so excited and nervous that we kept dropping our purses and wallets. the ticket booth guys were laughing at us. xD

okay. psa is over. on to the tag.

HOW WERE YOU INTRODUCED INTO THE MCU FANDOM?

i assume you mean MCU films and not Marvel? well, i saw my very first Marvel film when i was 13 or 14, and it was The Avengers. it completely blew me away, as i grew up reading Silver and Golden Age comics and absolutely loved the superheroes. my very first Marvel film in the theaters was Avengers: Age of Ultron, and from then on, i've seen almost every Marvel film in the theater. i'm a total sucker for Marvel films, xD.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MARVEL FILM?

no question about it.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

yup. it's my absolute favorite Marvel film & i've seen it about *squints* five times? and each time, it gets better.

i also really like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thor: Ragnorak.

TOP FAVORITE MARVEL CHARACTER?

again, no question about it.

Bucky Barnes. The Winter Soldier. White Wolf. James Buchanan Barnes.

yup. he's my ultimate favorite character. one of my favorite shirts is this one that one of my best friends got me as a graduation present. it's black and says BUCKY BARNES PROTECTION SQUAD on it and i love it. ;)

second favorite is, without question, Captain America. Steve Rogers. <3

i also love Spider-Man. anddd..... *stops before i list all the MCU characters*

IF YOU WERE TRANSPORTED INTO THE MCU AND HAD TO TRADE PLACES WITH ONE OF THE SUPERHEROES, WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

erm.

that's a hard question.

probably Steve? then i could be best friends with Bucky. xD

or Black Widow. she's really cool and then i could have Hawkeye as my best friend and spy partner.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE FILMS?

oh, i have a lot. xD

my ultimate favorite: i'm with you til the end of the line, pal.

also,

i have nothing to prove to you.

^^ k, when that part in Captain Marvel happened, the entire theater just went oooohhhh. hands-down, one of the best parts in that entire, gorgeous movie.

also,

i recognize that the council has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid--- decision, i've elected to ignore it.

and,

kick names. take ---.

also just realized that two of my favorite quotes have a curse word in it. xD

funny story: every time we take a test, one of my best friends and i look at each, and with deadpan faces, say "kick names. take butt.". and then we crack up laughing. xD

WHICH CREW WOULD YOU WANT TO BE PART OF THE MOST:
AVENGERS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, OR REVENGERS?

ooh, tough question. i'll be an Avenger. bc then i can fight alongside Steve, Natasha, Clint, Scott, Wanda, etc. it'll be awesome. then we can go get shwarma after we defeat the purple slimeball, Thanos.

FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE SHIP?

oooh.

okay, my favorite noncanon ship is definitely, without a doubt, Black Widow & Hawkeye. i've always shipped them together, and while the subplot in Age of Ultron was cute, it was so unexpected and abrupt. still bitter that they're not together ;).

my favorite canon ship is definitely Steve and Peggy & Tony and Pepper. there better be a Tony & Pepper scene in Endgame *squints suspiciously at the Russo brothers*.

my least favorite ship.....is, without a doubt, Natasha and Bruce. #sorry #notreally. the romance was so abrupt and unexpected and just nooppppeee.

also Steve and Sharon. firstly, the romance between them was so forced and abrupt (especially that kiss *gags*) and it's incredibly awkward since Sharon is Peggy's niece.

FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE VILLAIN?

ooh, Loki is probably my favorite villain. also i really liked Hela from Thor: Ragnorak and i'm super excited to see Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home

least favorite villain....is definitely Killmonger from Black Panther. i just really didn't like how they made Killmonger's character. he's a villain, people. yes, he had a rough childhood. but that's no excuse to enjoy killing people? he scarred himself for every life he took, and personally, that's super messed up and disturbing. idk. just really did not like him.

UNPOPULAR MCU OPINION?

oh, here we go. xD

okay, so i didn't love Black Panther

*waits for tirade of angry comments*

clarification: i didn't hate it, but i didn't love it. don't get me wrong, i absolutely love T'Challa and Shuri and Okoye, and Wakanda, and all that. but i didn't like the villain (Killmonger), some underlying political messages, and some lines in the film.

just sayin', the second post credits scene was the best part of the whole movie. #notsorry

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE STAN LEE CAMEO?

so, the Russo brothers just released a statement saying that Endgame is the last MCU film to have a Stan Lee cameo. *sobs*

anyway, my favorite cameo is definitely, without a doubt, the cameo in Age of Ultron. when Stan Lee drinks some of Thor's aged beer from Asgard and is carried out saying, "Exelsior!" <3 <3 that's how Stan Lee would always sign off on comics and stuff. a nice little nod to the Marvel comics. :)

- - - - - - - - - - -

so yea. just popping in to do this tag, bc i may or may not have screamed when i saw Christine's post. and i just HAD to do it. bc i'm a giant, proud Marvel geek. who has way too many Captain America t-shirts. also, for the record, i'm #TeamCap all the way. til the end of the line *sobs*. IM NOT READY FOR ENDGAME.

anyway. *coughs* sorry about this huge hiatus, and yes, i will be gone for another undisclosed amount of time. just a lot of stuff to work thru. school & other fun stuff.
